Intro to Urban Farming
HHT 084
Wed, 6 - 9 pm, 10/20
3 hours, $40
Around the city, a growing number of urban farmers are planting on their roofs, backyards and community gardens and harvesting locally grown food. Replacing blacktop with plants cuts down on storm runoff, insulates buildings and moderates urban heat. Some city farmers are even keeping chickens and bees and harvesting crops of exotic mushrooms. This course discusses the local ‘food shed’, green markets, CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture), chicken coops as well as space requirements for your own city farm. Come learn about improving your access to fresh food and share your experiences. This course will also discuss composting and rainwater harvesting systems. Then join us in the spring to dig with our Urban Farming Workshop.
